Throughout April The 13th Floor Gallery at 95 Commissioner Street hosts an exhibition about Mathijs Lieshout's recent temporary installation project at the historic Johannesburg Central Library (a short walk from the gallery).

In two large spaces, that reach from the roof to the basement of the library, Lieshout is continuously building wooden constructions that grow in size and complexity by the day over a period of three months. The temporary installation highlights how the things that we build make us as much as we make them.

The exhibition To Build, Open House hosted at The 13th Floor Gallery is a celebration of the public space that the Johannesburg Central Library offers and the social interactions that this project has created. The exhibition includes photography and video by Masimba Sasa and writing by Nigeria-based writer Anthony Nsofor which was created in conjunction with the installation.

Apr 2 Exhibition opening at 95 Commissioner Street 12:00-17:00.
Apr 6 at 19:00 Exhibition and installation walkabout.
Apr 20 at 18:30 The 13th Floor Gallery hosts a special dinner with the artist and team members of the To Build project.
