Mikhael Subotzky - Massive Nerve Corpus

May 18 - Jul 13 2019       163 Jan Smuts Ave, Parkwood
share
Following on from the artist's last major exhibition at Goodman Gallery, the video installation WYE, in his latest provocative series of paintings and works on paper Massive Nerve Corpus, Mikhael Subotzky continues his exploration of white masculinity and the uncomfortable questions of white guilt and white male 'norms' that have long dominated our society and culture as a whole.

As he puts himself; “what I’m trying to do in my work right now is to pull apart the normalization of whiteness, to make it look strange, to re-racialize it and to represent it as the ridiculous construction that it is" with the aim that his work " will contribute in some small way to the deconstruction of white masculine power, rather than reinforcing it".

On Sat Jul 13 at 13:00 Mikhael Subotzky will be in conversation with art critics Ashraf Jamal and Sean O'Toole.
