The Mzansi Fela Festival, orginally a five-day event, has evolved into an almost month-long celebration of art and culture held at Pretoria's State Theatre. The 2023 edition promises an exciting line-up, featuring headline acts like Samthing Soweto and the alternative songstress Thandiswa Mazwai.

Dive into the spirit of December with Samthing Soweto's performance on Fri, Dec 1. Expect an energetic and soulful show featuring popular songs like his number-one single on Spotify Akulaleki and a rendition of Sun-El Musician's song Akanamali. Tickets are R200-R350 per person. Book here

Renowned local songbird Thandiswa Mazwai takes the stage on Sat, Dec 2. In a nostalgic journey, Mazwai treats the audience to a blend of old classics and new songs off her upcoming album, Sankofa. Mazwai is always a popular artist to see with sold-out performances. Tickets are R350-R600 per person. Book here.

Beyond the musical extravagance, the Mzansi Fela Festival includes a broader celebration of artistic expression. An exhibition by Nolwizwi Lamula titled "What Once Was Is" adds an art element to the festival. Lamula's showcase delves into the profound spirituality of hair, exploring its diverse forms and meanings. The exhibition unfolds the transformation, deconstruction and reconstruction of African hair, celebrating its beauty and cultural significance. Marvel at Lamula's works in the Opera Marble Foyer, open the public from now until Fri, Nov 24
