Photographer Nikita Mahlati and graphic designer Mbongeni Fongoqa introduce their collaborative showcase The Freak Show at downtown Joburg's inspiring artist studios and gallery space Assemblage.

Using the expression 'Neo-South African' as a starting point, Mahlati and Fongoqa attempt to reinvent the current discourses in South Africa and create their own visual language. The exhibition’s 20 artworks were made in a two-step process; Mahlati took the photos in black and white, upon which Fongoqa added synthetic colours to create manipulated photographs coded with their unique language.
