Coinciding with First Sundays at Victoria Yards this is the launch of Roger the Rat, a book and exhibition by acclaimed photographer Roger Ballen. The book is published by Hatje Cantz (Germany) and distributed by Jonathan Ball in South Africa. A selection of images from the artist's series Roger the Rat will be exhibited until February 2021.

Described as surreal, refined and disturbing (a hallmark of Roger Ballen's work) this photographic series was released in the Year of the Rat. Produced between 2015 and 2020, this new Ballen project includes pop art elements. In his signature sharp black-and-white shots, the photographer follows the life of a creature who has the head of a rat but whose body appears human. Absurd and thought-provoking, Ballen's work always raises more questions about human existence than gives answers. Intriguing and thought-provoking.
