Lamb, bifteki (spiced minced beef patties) or chicken souvlaki served with tzatziki, fresh tomatoes, red onion and rocket and wrapped up snugly in a freshly baked pita bread is still the star of the show here, although you can also create your own meze platter by mixing and matching from a selection of grilled halloumi, baked chill feta (highly recommended), tarama and tzatziki dips, chicken or lamb kebabs and salads.
There are now several pint-sized Soul Souvlaki cafes scattered across Joburg including in Rosebank (opposite the Fire Station), in Bedfordview, Linden, Dowerglen, Broadacres, Kyalami, Sandton and inside the Shepherd Market courtyard just off Jan Smuts Ave in Hyde Park. Note that the open days and hours differ by location.
This a great place to pick up a takeaway lunch on the go, or a platter for the office. You can also get your Soul Souvlaki from delivery companies such as Mr Delivery and Uber Eats.
