STAY UP - a street art film experience of Maboneng

more than a year ago
During South Africa's early 2020 lockdown Bheki Dube, founder of the Curiocity backpackers chain, and a team of local filmmakers were busy in the streets of Maboneng creating a beautiful short film dedicated to the street artists whose hundreds of colourful murals give Maboneng its distinctive flair.

As the team explain; "when the community came to a grinding halt during lockdown, murals that are typically a silent backdrop came alive, telling their own stories in this uniquely empty space created by the pandemic. This film is our tribute to the artists that are the fabric of this neighborhood, and their work that creates the energy that Maboneng is known for".

The beautiful film takes in all corners of Maboneng and its numerous murals including works by artists Kim Lieberman, FALKO, Remed, Snowchino, dbongz_one, Karabo Poppy, ROA, Reggiethenomad, Link1, FreddySam and Nelson Makamo among others.
