From March 22 to 25 specialist fine art and design auction house Stephan Welz & Co, presents an immense 'hybrid' auction, taking place online with live bidding also happening at their Rosebank showroom. This special March auction is described as a ''collector's A to Z'' with an extraordinary array of items under the hammer, ranging from contemporary artworks to period furniture, glittering jewellery and exquisite fine wines.

The catalogue for the four-day auction is packed with enticing items, including their biggest ever offering of artworks yet. There are some 195 artworks under the hammer, ranging from prints to paintings, sculpture and watercolours.

Estimates for artworks vary from R3,000 for small and engaging works by lesser-known artists, to the tens of thousands for paintings by some of South Africa's most famous artists such as William Kentridge, Gerard Sekoto, Nelson Makamo, Simon Stone and Walter Battiss. The greats of South African art history also feature and among the many big-ticket items sure to draw the attention of major collectors is an oil painting by the iconic JH Pierneef.

Those with a passion for vintage and period jewellery should also make sure to get registered and start browsing the 172 items in the stunning auction session devoted to jewellery. Perfect for the dapper gentleman, there's a collection of designer cufflinks waiting to be snapped up (estimates start from R1,000) while when it comes to jewels there is a glittering display ranging from classic pearls and elegant diamond studs to a gorgeous diamond and sapphire necklace by Chanel that's fit for a queen.

Ardmore Designs is one of South Africa's most iconic studios specialising in highly-collectable one-of-a-ceramic pieces and this latest auction presents a wonderful selection of quirky Ardmore pieces just waiting to be snapped up by a lucky bidder.

How to bid at a Stephan Welz & Co auction

Taking place from March 22 to 25, this is a hybrid-live auction so you can bid online or in person.

To do either you must first register an account online with the auction house at swelco.co.za/auctions. Once you are registered you will be able to place online straight away through your online account.

You can place pre-bids ahead of the auction and when the auction goes live you will be notified if you are out-bid at any time and invited to place another bid should you wish. Once a lot has closed and you have successfully won your bid you will then receive your invoice and instructions on how to collect your items.
