Acclaimed writer and director Lara Foot’s latest play The Inconvenience of Wings shines a light on what it is like to live with bipolar disorder, tackling weighty issues such as addiction, self harm, compulsion and denial. Told through the fraught relationship of a married couple The Inconvenience of Wings follows the struggles of Sara (played by Jennifer Steyn) who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, her husband Paul (played by Andrew Buckland) who is on a mission to 'cure' her and James (Mncedisi Shabangu), a Professor of Psychiatry who tries to help Paul cope with his wife's manic depression.

Inspired by author Abraham J Twerski`s book Addictive Thinking as well as conversations with celebrated psychiatrist Dr Sean Baumann, the play is an intimate and intricate examination of how society deals with mental health and the fragility, vulnerability and complexity of the human mind.
