A storybook-style playground lands in Joburg this May as The Magical Marble Family Fest converts the leafy surrounds of James & Ethel Gray Park into a two-day, multi-sensory experience for all ages. Brought to life by the creators of The Luxurious Marble Circus in collaboration with Investec banking, this is a “choose-your-own-wonder” festival where music, play, food and fantasy come together.
What to expect at The Magical Marble Family Fest
MUSIC AT THE MAGICAL MARBLE FAMILY FEST
It's a full day of discovery with more than 35 curated spaces designed for every age and energy level – from soft-play zones and craft carousels to e-gaming hubs, glow-in-the-dark adventures and a Willy Wonka-inspired sweet emporium. Two stages keep the energy flowing with a mix of local favourites and international acts, including Jeremy Loops, GoodLuck, Mi Casa, DJ Fresh and Germany’s Laura Zimmermann x Lyam Cruz. Expect feel-good throwbacks from Me & Mr Green, while younger performers like 12-year-old Ethan English and nostalgic Disney sets from Vin GrooVin bring their own magic to the stage. Sunday turns up the rhythm with amapiano, afro-house and 3-Step for all ages, with a few thoughtful Mother’s Day touches along the way.
MAGICAL CHARACTERS AND STAR GUESTS AT MAGICAL MARBLE FAMILY FEST
Leading the adventure is radio personality Anele Mgudlwa as the Fairy Godmother of Explorers, joined by her son Alakhe. Expect playful storytelling throughout the day, with whimsical characters like Nunu the flying leopard, Slo Mo the laid-back tortoise, and Zaza the ever-stylish mongoose bringing the festival world to life. Adding extra sparkle is local rapper and singer Sho Madjozi, popping up with colourful flair and surprise moments.
FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT AT MAGICAL MARBLE FAMILY FEST
Beyond the stages, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained: Nerf battle zones, giant games, build-and-make stations, silent discos and dedicated teen hangouts. Grown-ups can unwind at double-decker bars with panoramic views, while family-friendly food comes via a Pantry-inspired tasting experience. Returning Marble Circus favourites also get a playful twist with milkshake “funtails” and carousel bars.
Considerately designed with families in mind, the festival includes pram parking, nappy-changing stations, supervised free-play zones and a tech-driven “Together Tag” system for extra peace of mind, making it easy to relax, explore and enjoy the day together.
