An Art Deco-era building in Doornfontein in the Joburg city centre that has been transformed into the studios of more than thirty exciting contemporary artists from all over Africa, August House's residents include emerging and established names such as Bronwyn Lace, Quinten Williams, Themba Khumalo, Bambo Sibiya, Layziehound Coka and Vusi Beauchamp.
Not generally open to the public, August House usually hosts regular open studio days where you can explore the building, meet the artists in their studios, learn about the creative process and buy their artworks directly.
The Studio is a Sacred Space is an innovative online exhibition platform that is August House's response to having to cancel their most recent planned Open Studio Day due to the nationwide lockdown. The online exhibition runs from Tuesday April 14 until Monday May 11 and features dozens of exciting new works by August House artists.
The artworks can all be bought online and prices and sizes of the works range from elegant and petite abstract etchings and works on paper to impressively scaled triptychs, vivid collages, striking works in oil, ink and acrylic and some standout, huge-scale contemporary canvases by highly coveted upcoming contemporary artists. The range of works and styles on offer is eclectic and exciting and price points, will appeal to both new art admirers as well as dedicated collectors.
