American filmmaker Daniel McCabe’s This is Congo is a gripping study of the violent struggle between the Congolese national army and the M23 rebel forces. Featuring raw war footage from the frontlines of the conflict, McCabe tells the life stories of civilians and military-men alike; a high-ranking officer in the National Army who has repeatedly supported the rebels, a national hero Colonel Mamadou Ndala, a single mother who smuggles gemstones to support her family and Hakiza Nyantaba, a professional tailor who has been uprooted six times due to military violence but never forgets his vintage Singer sewing machine.
