This Kasi Beer Garden and cider shack opened in October (2014) and looks set to be a Soweto hotspot. A street or two away from the famous Vilakazi strip this is the home of craft beer Soweto Gold Lager, and the brewery has been hard at work devising a new and excellent selection of lagers and fruity beers, including our favourite, the Soweto Gold Apple Ale.

The menu is 'gourmet township grill', so lots of meaty choices, including the excellent boerie roll with zesty relish and Apple Ale basted pork ribs. Soweto's 'hottest chicks' chicken wings weren't ready on our last visit but they sounded worth returning for - flash-fried with peri peri and sweet chili sauce.

The crew at Ubuntu Kraal have also devised plenty of ways to enjoy your visit with games and challenges. Finish 1kg of boerewors with a pitcher of Soweto Gold in under 30 mins and a cash prize could be yours. Warn us when you plan to visit - so we know to arrive the next day :)

Friendly service and the wait staff all seem to have impressive knowledge of the brewing process and are happy to answer lots of questions. You can also peek in at the brewery and take a tour.

A great afternoon and evening setting with plenty of outdoor seating. Highly recommended on your Soweto itinerary.
