Keyes Thursdays

Thursday Feb 6 17:00–22:30       19-21 Keyes Ave, Rosebank
share
Held on the first Thursday of every month, Keyes Thursdays is Rosebank's monthly street party and one of the very few regular events in this car-obsessed city which allows the opportunity to hang out on a pedestrianised street and party outside at night.

This month the party comes with a fresh spin from the norm, reverting back to becoming an admission-free event again (in 2019 Keyes Thursdays became a ticketed event). On the street expect lots of food trucks and pop-up bars while inside the Trumpet building contemporary art exhibitions await.

Keyes Thursdays February edition highlights include:

Live music and DJs
This month Swazi Cartel and Jazz by B Therapy are playing live on the street while DJ Lenoir spins the decks with some cool tunes in the Atrium.

Night of a 1000 drawings doodle session
This is an art for charity initiative inviting artists, and amateur doodlers to donate A5 portraits to be sold across the world. All you need to bring along with you is your creative spirit!

Garden of Earthly Dislikes by Felix Laband
The expansive Keyes Art Mile atrium hosts Cape Town-based contemporary artist and musician Felix Laband's latest exhibition Garden of Earthly Delights, a mixture of painting and collage that touches on notions of human rights, conflict and the sensationalist intentions of propaganda.

Upstairs at Mix Cocktail Bar Laband will also be performing live, presenting a show based around his 'Tikno' back catalogue, a unique genre of traditional South African Old Skool Kwaito tempos and experimental soundscapes. Tickets for this performance cost R300 and you may book here.

Occupying the Fatuous State of Severity at TMRW Gallery
The latest exhibition at the innovative digital art gallery TMRW Gallery explores the emotional ups and downs of the mind and the pressures asserted on it by modern life. This immersive visual installation situates the viewer in the midst of a downtrodden contemporary society where the tensions of social media, language insecurities and the complex dynamics of modern friendship hint at and exaggerate symptoms of mental illness. Intense and thought provoking.

Group exhibition at SMAC Gallery
Contemporary SMAC stays open late with an opportunity to browse a group exhibition by local artists.
