In collaboration with the International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM) World New Music Days 2023 Festival, UJ Arts & Culture holds a four-day performances series at its Kingsway campus from Mon, Nov 27 until Thu, Nov 30.

The 2023 event is the first World New Music Days festival held in Africa, and during a special time too, celebrating 100 years of the International Society of Contemporary Music.

The festival highlights global contemporary music and cultural exchange and is an opportunity to immerse yourself in creativity while enjoying the connections we all have to music with a diverse programme that includes workshops and concerts.

A noteworthy feature is an installation by jazz artist Shane Cooper, a UJ artist in residence, who presents his project Hemispheres.

Merging jazz  and electronic music, using an arcade-style controller, listeners can harmonise two musical halves. The quadraphonic sound installation is a preview of Cooper's upcoming interactive album, featuring collaboration with South African and Swiss jazz musicians. View the installation daily from 19:00-19:45 and before the featured concerts starting at 20:00 until 21:30. See the full programme of events here
