Church of St. Leonard in Lipnica Murowana

Lipnica Murowana     more than a year ago
Located an hour south-east of Kraków, local legend claims this steep-roofed structure was built in 1141, though this is a claim that’s discounted by most historians who date its construction to the late 15th century. Notable for not having a tower, this charming church features 16th century paintings adorning the ceiling, and a relief of the Virgin Mary that was originally cast in the 14th century. Added to the UNESCO List in 2003, the original altar was so precious that UNESCO insisted on its removal to the Diocesan Museum in Tarnów for protection. The church is open to tourists from May to December.
