Zalewajka

  ul. Wąska 2 ,   Kazimierz          (+48) 533 33 92 29     11 Apr 2026
Located near the High Synagogue in the heart of Kazimierz, this popular restaurant presents simple Polish dishes in a more modern context. Taking its name from a traditional working-class soup, Zalewajka serves delicious contemporary takes on Polish comfort food like traditional breaded pork cutlets (with anchovy sauce), pierogi dumplings with duck meat, locally-sourced trout, beetroot soup and maczanka po krakowsku (stewed pork neck), and is even brave enough to include the starkly simple cow tongue with horseradish sauce (we dare you). The house specialty 'zalewajka' sour rye soup - with bacon, dill and mashed potato - is delicious, and you can tell this place is special based on its ability to get Poles excited about Polish cuisine (quite an accomplishment). Further separating them from other traditional Polish restaurants is the decidely un-nostalgic interior, which clashes with the menu, but suits the concept of modern takes on classic dishes. With high quality cooking and affordable prices, it's a winning package, so make a reservation if you want to secure a table. Underrated.
