Zalewajka

  ul. Wąska 2 ,   Kazimierz          (+48) 533 33 92 29     19 Jan 2026
As Kazimierz becomes more touristy, pricey and polished, it's nice to discover places like Zalewajka, which have certainly learned and benefited from modern food industry trends, but essentially serve you the same simple, traditional food your Polish grandmother grew up on (if you had one). Located near the High Synagogue, Zalewajka offers a bright, airy, almost Provencal interior in which to enjoy contemporary takes on traditional breaded pork cutlets (with anchovy sauce?), pierogi dumplings filled with duck meat, locally-sourced trout, beetroot soup, maczanka krakowska (stewed pork neck), and more. The house specialty 'zalewajka' soup is delicious, and you can tell this place is special based on its ability to get Poles excited about Polish cuisine (quite an accomplishment). Prices are reasonable, some dishes are designed for sharing, and there are solid options for bringing happy vegetarians to the table. Overall, underrated.
