This new exhibit at the Jan Matejko House aims to inhabit the same spirit as the very first exhibition organised here in 1898. For 125 years, the Jan Matejko House Museum has been popularizing unknown aspects of the great local artist's life and work, as well as his rich collections of crafts, fabrics and militaria. The genius loci of this place has always been created by people, and since the creation of the museum - also by the collections. This new exhibition will be integrated into the permanent exhibition, presenting the artist's house and the biographical museum in four versions in the context of history, events and characters - from extraordinary residents to guardians. Marketing and promotional activities for the establishment and functioning of the Jan Matejko Museum, conducted since 1893, will be recalled. The exhibition will allow you to see various perspectives on the social effects of this artist's creative activity. For the first time, memorabilia related to Jan Matejko's funeral, which became a patriotic manifestation, will be shown, including photographs, mourning sashes and wreaths, telegrams, press releases and more. As it happens, Matejko's death was the catalyst for the immediate organisation of this museum - the first biographical museum in the Polish territories under partition.
