Jan Matejko was the most prominent painter of notable Polish political and military events. As a student of art, he worked on perfecting his skill by drawing still life, landscape, architecture, human figure, etc. The Jan Matejko House contains, among other artworks, this particular collection of drawings. The collection is divided into sketches for historical compositions, studies for portraits, costumes, architecture, landscape, as well as decorative arts.  A special place is designated to caricatures depicting fleeting moments.
