An absolutely treat for lovers of the 15th and 16th century paintings. Three top tier paintings from the former Viennese collection of Karol Lanckoroński will be on display at the Wawel Royal Castle until October 2. St George and the Dragon (c. 1470) by Paolo Uccella from the collection of the National Gallery in London, Portrait of a 21-year-old Woman (c. 1530) by Bartholomaeus Bruyn from the collection of the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, and Society in the Garden (1661) by Barenda Graata from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam will be on display to highlight the new arrangement of Wawel’s paintings from the former Viennese collection. Karol Lanckoroński’s collection of around 800 works gather in 1890s was one of the finest in Europe when it came to 15-17th century art. Much of the collection was later sold to different museums by his heirs, but part of it was donated by his daughter prof. Karolina Lanckorońska to Polish cultural institutions. Among them was the Wawel Royal Castle, which boasts 87 paintings from the 14th-17th century. These can be admired in the royal chambers of the palace.
