Natalia Lach-Lachowicz (1937-2022), known in the art world as Natalia LL, was a pioneer of feminist art. Known her sexually suggestive photographs, her work had roots in conceptualism and was also part of the body art movement. The MOCAK collection includes more than 40 works by the late contemporary artist, including many from her famous and controversial 'Consumer Art' series (1972-74), in which female models simulate oral sex using bananas, custard and jelly. Although the images lack subtlety today, in the 1970s they were cheered for their manifestation of uninhibited female sexuality while also pointing to the link between eroticism and consumerism in mass culture. With the MOCAK collection being shown in its entirety for the first time, this exhibit represents a premier for and tribute to the late artist, who passed away in August of this year.
