This exhibit of illustrations by multimedia artist, photographer and performer Aleksandra Młynarczyk-Gemza is taken straight from her debut novel of the same name, Notes of a Madwoman (Zapiski wariatki; Znak 2022). The book relates her personal experiences of being a woman, an artist and someone with a diagnosed mental illness. A very private and moving story, the novel becomes a manifesto for her faith in art, which allows Młynarczyk-Gemza to touch the boundaries of her identity, including getting closer to 'the Other' within herself. Illustrations for selected chapters of Notes of a Madwoman will be displayed in the MOCAK Library, and the February 9th opening will begin at 18:00 in the MOCAK Audiovisual Room with a performative reading of excerpts by the author/artist.
