An earthquake lasting a mere 20 seconds destroyed nearly 80% of the city of Skopje on July 26th, 1963, including the majority of historical buildings, resulting in a 100,000 people losing their homes. The event deeply moved public opinion around the world, and as a result the decision was made to rebuild the city as a symbol of a global solidarity. The exhibition presents Poland’s contribution to the project: architect Adolf Ciborowski, who supervised the reconstruction of the ruined city, and city planner Stanisław Jankowski, who headed a team of Polish architects.
