Suzanne Vega is one of the most talented songwriters of her generation. She became a key figure in folk music in the beginning of the 80’s. Since her debut 25 years ago she has sold more than 7 million records and was nominated for a Grammy 7 times. In her warm ballads she addresses issues that people face every day. She is inspired by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed who all had an influence on her music and lyrics. Suzanne Vega was born on July 11, 1959 in Santa Monica but grew up in New York. In 1985 she released her first album entitled “Suzanne Vega” and it was an immediate success. Two years later she released “Luka” which is the biggest hit of her musical career. In 2016 she released an album based on the music for a play that she co-wrote with composer Duncan Sheik entitled “Lover, Beloved: Songs From An Evening With Carson McCullers.” Vega plays the role of the charismatic American writer Carson McCullers and expresses his views about life, love and art. The creators were nominated for a Drama Desk award for the music in the play.
