Nowa Huta is a Social Realist district erected in 1949 for propaganda purposes right next to Kraków. Since its creation, it has been compared to its magnificent historical neighbour, Kraków. The photography exhibition, a part of a larger undertaking titled The Ideal City, attempts to redefine Nowa Huta as the modern metropolis. Makarewicz and Pental photographs document the emergence of a socialist city, and the first decades of its existence as an independent industrial centre. The exhibition attempts to challenge the existing stereotypes associated with Nowa Huta.
