One of the first major museum exhibitions focussed on the work of one of Kraków's major architects takes place at the Hipolit House. Jan Zawiejski was responsible for much of the development of the city at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. During a time of rapid industrial modernisation and expansion, Zawiejski combined modernization with a great respect for the history of the city. The exhibition will also tell the story of the elites in the city as it related to the development of landmarks such as the Słowacki Theater. The concept behind the exhibition is a belief that architecture is like a text, in which the city’s story is recorded: the relations between the inhabitants, their collective identity, the economy, modernity, and power.
