The 6th edition of Wianki (Wreaths) follows the French formula of Fête de la Musique. The tradition of Wianki in Kraków has Slavic roots, the pagan rituals of which were repackaged as 'St. John's Eve' with the arrival of Christianity, though some of them are still practised in various forms today. In its modern form, under the official patronage of the City of Kraków and Kraków Festival Office, Wianki is a massive day of free outdoor concerts across the city. The lineup on the Main Market Square stage includes artists like Natalia Nykiel, Miuosh, Flirtini, Rasmentalism & The Dumplings. There will be 20+ venues and stages around Kraków. Check out the full programme here. In addition to the music, one of the oldest traditions connected to Wianki is the contest for the most beautiful flower garland - look for local girls wearing hand-woven wreaths of flowers in their hair.
