A fascinating look back at the year that was, and a strikingly visual confrontation with environmental, societal and political issues currently facing the world, the World Press Photo exhibit is one of the most important annual exhibits that comes to Kraków. In addition to popping a flashbulb on the issues of the day, it also awards artistic accomplishment in the field of photography and is a huge source of prestige for the photo-journalists whose work is selected and featured in the exhibit. Both a showcase and competition, each year the World Press Photo Foundation, in collaboration with Canon, asks an independent international jury of experts to choose and award the best press photos and photography projects in a range of categories to become part of this exhibition, which then tours the world stopping in major cities for about a month at a time (don't miss it!)

The 2023 edition (the 66th in its history), saw close to 65,000 images submitted by over 4,000 photographers from 130 countries. This is the also the 6th time that the exhibition has been hosted by the Nowa Huta Cultural Center in Kraków. Highly recommended, though note that some of the images may be distressing and the exhibit is not necessarily suitable for young children.
