"László Herman – Laci (b. 1961) delved into the memory of his own youth in his latest series of paintings. He returned to his Prekmurje, by the bank of the Črnec stream (Fekete ér), where he spent his teenage years and early adulthood. The stream, which originates in the village of Bratonci, flows into the Ledava near Lakoš. In the 1970s and early 1980s, it was still possible to swim near there. At the time, Laci went to high school in Ljubljana and stayed at a boarding school during the week. He returned home on weekends and fell in love again and again with the girls who bathed in the village's unofficial swimming pool. The bathing suit did not return his love, no matter how much the reserved and awkward young man longed for it. The naive youthful passion and the first feelings of falling in love were put away by the disappointed young man in the chest of oblivion for more than forty years.

With a series of beautiful images that he creates in and on glass, he returns to the pool of memories this year. It puts bittersweet feelings before our eyes in a luxurious palette of green and blue colors. Herman's art moves organically between folklore art and his own interpretation of late Cubism. He uses color as a powerful expressive tool. Using an unusual technique, which he calls fusion, he assembles pieces of colored glass in the studio and paints them additionally. Then he melts these artful puzzles in a furnace. Technological procedures are the basis for well-thought-out art compositions in which broken pieces are reassembled into a whole. This works sometimes intimately, but in some parts it is monumental, almost mythical.

Opening of the exhibition is February 16 at 17:00 at Liszt Institute, Barvarska steza 8.
