Balkan cuisine is one of our favourites, and we're happy to report that To Je To Balkan Žar on Kersnikova is a great addition to Ljubljana's already ample offering of such restaurants. With a head chef from Leskovac - Serbia's Mecca of grilled meat - it should come as no surprise that the heaping plates of carnivorous delights are prepared to perfection, while perhaps most impressive are the dishes such as muckalica and sarma, which are more commonly found in grandma's kitchen rather than restaurant menus. Other items that set To Je To apart include the specialty house burek (baked by a Bosnian chef who is clearly a master of the art), some delectable cold starters that are surprisingly light and flavourful, and a selection of homemade rakija that passed our very thorough taste tests with flying colours.
