Seizing its opportunity while Poznań's Old Town Market Square was being renovated, Plac Wolności has now established itself as a permanent and important part of the city's Christmas holiday festivities - a responsibility it splits not only with Stary Rynek, but also with the Poznań International Fair, which hosts a third, even-larger holiday market. Located directly in-between the other two, Plac Wolności's market is a bit smaller and also more atmospheric, though it does get very crowded. In addition to market stalls selling holiday gifts, decorations and handicrafts, as well as hot food, sweets and spiced wine, the Christmas market features a towering Ferris wheel (which dates all the way back to 1946 and is ideal for taking aerial photos of the market), a small whirligig ride, roller-coaster and carousel, as well as a cultural stage with performances throughout the season. This Christmas market also runs for over six weeks, all the way up until Three Kings Day, making the winter holiday atmosphere last well into the New Year. A wonderful place to experience the sights, smells and tastes of the season, as well as do some Christmas shopping, or just feel the festive vibes.
