The Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec

  ul. Benedyktyńska 37 ,   No District          (+48) 12 688 54 52     more than a year ago
Beyond the imposing archway entrance - which reflects the partially defensive design of the complex – the pathway widens and becomes a cloister (an open courtyard of sorts containing the entrances of various buildings). The church, Abbey, museum and shops all face the central cloister which covers a fairly small area. Partially because of this paucity of space, the Abbey is relatively small and compact, but remarkable nonetheless. Due perhaps to its popularity and the sheer number of visitors wandering about (particularly on warm weather weekends), the abbey is now only available to tourists accompanied by a guide. The tours take about one-hour and are offered almost hourly, during which you'll be shown the Abbey, cloisters and SS Peter & Paul Church (if services are not taking place).
