Nora Turato: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Oct 11 - Jan 31 2026
Trg žrtava fašizma 16
Across the Pavilion’s protective scaffolding, Turato inscribes the raw cry “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!”, brought to life once a day at noon by a sound recording that resonates like a ritual. Both visual and auditory, the piece transforms the Pavilion into a stage and invites passersby into a shared moment that is universal, instinctive, and symbolic of language itself.
Born in Zagreb in 1991 and raised in Rijeka, Turato now lives in Amsterdam. Her work blends political discourse, pop culture, and everyday fragments into bold visual-textual compositions, marked by striking typography and spoken-word performance. She has exhibited at leading institutions including MoMA New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, and ICA London.
The Meštrović Pavilion, a modernist landmark designed by sculptor Ivan Meštrović and inaugurated in 1938, has lived many lives — from mosque to Museum of the Revolution — before returning to artists in the 1990s. Today it remains a vibrant cultural hub and one of Zagreb’s most recognizable symbols.
The exhibition opens on October 11, 2025, and runs until January 2026. If you’re in Zagreb, don’t miss the chance to pass by at noon, when Turato’s monumental cry will echo across the city — a moment that is as much about art as it is about life itself.
