This café at Schaffhauserlatz is the completely vegan sister of the neighbouring Gnädinger bakery and café. Here, the salmon in the sandwiches is made from carrots, the egg filling in the croissant is also a clever substitute and all of the pastry is naturally baked without any butter. For lunch you can take your pick of gratins, burgers made from beans or quinoa and other unique offerings. The so-called planted chicken (made of peas and sunflower oil) served with a vegan mushroom cream sauce and rösti was impressive. In fact, the faux chicken almost had the same texture as real chicken. But Sprössling doesn't just feature tasty food. With its birch branches that serve as room dividers and its old wooden tables, it's also a cosy place to read a newspaper or have a coffee with friends.
