Part of a series presenting British theatre on the big screen in Polish cinemas, Multikino will show Peter Shaffer’s play, Amadeus - transmitted live from London’s National Theatre. The popular play tells the fictional story of a young Mozart arriving in Vienna, where his genius and lifestyle quickly begin to irritate those in the royal court. Chief rival Antonio Salieri is so jealous of Mozart’s gifts and irreverence that he hatches a plot to kill him and pass a Requiem written by Mozart off as his own at his rival’s funeral. The play was made into a massively successful film by Milos Forman in 1984, winning 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. For this stage production, Salieri is played by Lucian Msamati, while Adam Gillen plays Mozart; Southbank Sinfonia provide the music.
