While 1945 in Poland marked the end of the Second World War, in more ways than one—it also signified many new beginnings. Once the war was over, the artist community across Poland got to work and began its revival. This exhibit is a hat-tip in particular to the artists whose creative output amassed during the decade following the conclusion of the war, specifically those who were living in the cities near the Baltic coast (including cities like Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot). The exhibit aims to present the rich repertoire of artworks that were created throughout this era while maintaining a critical view on the trends and recurring themes that dominated at that time. A special emphasis will be placed on works from 1949–1955, which are characterised by the socialist realism art movement. (You can probably guess what the recurring themes consisted of in those kinds of works.)
