Traveling comes from the Old French word travail, meaning “suffering or painful effort” as in traveling a long distance in a covered wagon. The way to travel certainly changed over the ages and nowadays it is not associated with pain and suffering anymore, but learning, excitement, often resulting in getting to know yourself better. The artists Mateusz Choróbski, Antonio Fiorentino, Enrique Ramirez, Emilja Skarnulyte and Tanja Thorjussen are exploring the concept of travel through the prism of a constant search for the meaning of life. Is our life merely a constant fight to survive or is there more to it? How does the process of moving from one place to another affect us? Do we need transformations to grow as human beings? The exhibition at the Günter Grass Gallery is a poetic journey through reality and fantasy, past and present, here and there. Let the art take you on a journey of self-discovery.
