Benoni's Sibikwa Arts Centre, in partnership with the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and Théâtre du Soleil, is staging 1789, a captivating play that digs deep into the French Revolution and the fight for liberty, equality, and fraternity. This theatrical performance includes stunning visuals and movement that will immerse audiences into the thick of a revolutionary France, and the year its people rose up – 1789.

Originally staged by French director Ariane Mnouchkine, South African veteran directors Phyllis Klotz and Smal Ndaba bring this compelling story to life, where the lines between performer and audience blur, by taking theatre-goers to the streets of Paris and showcasing the journey citizens took to fight against the monarchy and taking control of the government.

Ticketing options include a single ticket, a ticket and a light French meal, and a ticket, shuttle from Rosebank Mall and a light French meal. The production runs from Sat, Jul 15 – Sun, Jul 23
