Bathini Abafazi — a group exhibition at Gallery Fanon
Aug 28 - Oct 8 2021
281 Commissioner St, Maboneng
Directly translated from Zulu, Bathini Abafazi means "what do the women say"? and in their works these artists give answers to this question, sharing their own thoughts or expressing messages from previous generations of women. This is an art exhibition that sets forth to talk back and overpower the silences imposed on women's voices by patriarchal cultures and traditions.
The artworks in the exhibition are a mixture of mediums and themes including sculpture, painting, video, photography, mixed media and art made from everyday objects and found materials. Featured artists include Ayanda Phasha, Cow Mash, Akudzwe Elsie Chiwa, Lesego Bantsheng, Moipane Tlale, Tisetso Molobi, and Zenande Mketeni.
Sat Aug 28 at 12:00 Exhibition opening at Gallery Fanon with curator Mpumi Mayisa and the featured artists.
