Birthing Nureyev follows on from the critically acclaimed production Nijinsky's War. High expectations are in order as this exciting new play has already won plenty of awards.

Rudolph Nureyev was a Russian dancer, and Henque Heymans' award-winning book Birthing Nureyev is based on his life. This dance-infused theatrical production focuses on Nureyev's extraordinarily dramatic defection from Russia on June 16, 1961. Choreographed and performed by Ignatius van Heerden with direction by acclaimed Andre Odendaal, the production will have only four performances at Joburg Theatre. Ignatius van Heerden's passion for dance is expressed in jazz, ballet, and contemporary dance forms.
