Kalashnikovv Gallery opens 2023 with Charity Vilakazi's solo show Butha umhlambi wakho kukhona isikhala emakhazeni othingo. The works bring together folklore, fantasy and social history to look at how stories can validate women's agency and become restorative and empowering. Vilakazi's work uses ibomvu (red clay) with acrylic paints to honour beautification practices, and this gives the paintings a unique finish.
