Constitution Hill Human Rights Festival 2023

It couldn't be more timely considering the state of the world and the push back against basic human rights. The fifth edition of the Constitution Hill Human Rights Festival takes place on Fri, Mar 24 to Sun, Mar 26 with the theme Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All. This year's festival coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) so it is especially momentous. South African stars Msaki, BCUC and Biko's Manna and Mfundo will light up the stage - stand up, stand up for your rights!

Pre-events for the festival include a virtual live stream dialogue on the March 21 at 18:30. We, the People in conversation with Former Public Protector, Adv Thuli Madonsela and reigning Miss SA, Ndavi Nokeri hosted by the Constitution Hill Trust. Catch it live on Facebook at Constitution Hill SA.

On Fri, Mar 24, there is a dedicated day for skills-building workshops for NGO and activist organisations before the Human Rights Festival kicks off on Sat, Mar 25. Find out what you can expect below and book your place for this free event here.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Two ‘Townhall Debates’ one on preparing for the 2024 elections - 2024 our 1994 - How should we show up in the next general election? (Saturday) and how to survive the climate crisis - South Africa's Climate Crisis: How it will impact you and what we need to do to survive? (Sunday).

Dialogues, debates and seminars
There will be more than 50 debates and seminars curated by human rights experts and organisations. These programs provide a platform for attendees to engage with and learn more about specific human rights issues.

The ARTivism programme
Film, music, poetry, a book fair, and exhibitions to create intersectional stories and content addressing issues of migration, climate crisis, gender and racial justice.

Music performances
On Saturday the 25th include globally celebrated BCUC will take to the stage and on Sunday the 26th songbird Msaki and the super talented young stars of Biko's Manna and Mfundo.

Kids' programme
The kids' program is led by Play Africa will offer children ages 10 interactive workshops, a story programmes, theatre and music with a focus on developmental play.

The Activism Village
Over 50 social justice organisations and movements have booked booths in the activism village. This is an opportunity to profile what they do whilst engaging and educating festival attendees on human rights issues.

The festival is not only meant to teach and foster discussion around human rights but also connect like-minded people and provide a platform for to engage with these critical issues. The bumper packed weekend is set to be a wonderful event of learning and discussion while still keeping it fun and engaging, book your place so you don't miss out.
