Gardens of the Golden City is a Jourg-based garden club that organises a series of open garden days throughout the year, presenting the opportunity to explore some of the city's most wonderful private gardens. The money raised from ticket sales is donated to various local charities.   

Here's a look at some beautiful gardens opening their gates to the public this season for the Gardens of the Golden City's first season of open garden days from Sat, Sep 16 until Sun, Sep 17 it's always a great day out for anybody with an interest in horticulture. Tickets are R80 for entrance into all three gardens

Robson Savage Garden
The garden of financial services company Robson Savage in Richmond, located near Melville, is a thoughtfully designed corporate garden. The main garden boasts exquisite ferns and a meandering path adorned with mosaic accents as well as two fountains with sculptures by Sarah Cronin. The pavement is adorned with a riot of blooming plants and the whole garden is wheelchair-accessible. End off your wander through the property with tea at the Kittykazz Tea Garden.

Melcrest Wildlife Garden
Nestled atop one of the rocky ridges of Melville, this unique garden melds with natural rock formations. A haven for pollinators and local wildlife, the garden boasts meandering rock paths and terraces that invite you to explore the resident plants and insect life. While the back garden predominantly showcases indigenous and edible flora, the front garden includes exotic nectar and pollen-rich blooms. Be prepared for a few stairs so wear sturdy shoes and don't miss the opportunity to purchase raw honey and pollinator plants. Note: This garden is not suitable for those allergic to bees or lacking sure footing.

Big dreams, small garden in Melville
Explore this charming, compact garden that has been lovingly restored to its former glory after years of neglect. It's a true haven for birds, filled with vibrant bulbs and whimsical gnomes, showcasing how even the smallest spaces can burst with life and character. Discover how you can brighten up your garden no matter the size, and shop for plants, bird feeders, and bird seed. Refreshments will be on sale, and all proceeds go to chosen charities – Little Eden and KittyKazz Rescue.
