For two nights only, Wits Theatre hosts Hominal / Xaba, an internationally acclaimed collaboration between Swiss choreographer Marie-Caroline Hominal and Joburg’s own Nelisiwe Xaba. Mischievous, visually striking, and intellectually charged, the work takes place on Wed, Dec 10 and Thu, Dec 11, 2025. Book your tickets

Premiered in 2019 and now a landmark in both artists’ repertoires, Hominal / Xaba tackles cultural appropriation, authorship, identity, and digital-age mimicry with razor-sharp wit, powerful choreography, and visual poetry. Threads, textiles, and looping colour form an ever-shifting landscape on stage as the performers test, tease, and re-weave the frameworks that shape our world.

Hominal and Xaba’s long-standing connection, dating back to their Rambert School days in London, underpins their on-stage chemistry – intimate, expansive, playful, and utterly compelling.

This Joburg staging is part of Hominal’s ongoing Hominal / XXX series exploring unexpected artistic pairings. The work features music by Vincent Bertholet, technical direction by Jean-Pierre Potvliege, and local touring technician Solly Thaane. A rare chance for Joburg audiences to see two powerhouse artists in a production hailed across Europe, South Africa, and Canada, Hominal / Xaba is contemporary performance at its boldest, most subversive, and quietly unforgettable.
