One of South Africa’s oldest racecourses, the Turffontein Racecourse was built in 1887 and is widely considered by experts as one of the most difficult tracks in the country. With a steady climb from the 1200m mark to the final post, Turffontein is known for having produced some of the most thrilling finishes in South African racing history. The course is also famed for its magnificent views of Joburg’s iconic skyline.
One of Turffontein’s biggest signature events is the annual South African Triple Crown and Triple Tiara competition. Billed as horse racing’s ultimate test. Champion's Day is the final leg of the three race series and one of the biggest horse racing events on the South African calendar. This year could see history made with a much tipped filly Taking The Peace having already won two legs of the Triple Tiara series.
As ever at Turffontein, on race days there's plenty of action both on and off the track. Don't miss the Intercontinental Village where a host of stalls will be showcasing different cuisines and cultures from around the world with live entertainment also part of the Champion's Day fun.
