Ernest Cole Award winning photographer Masixole Feni presents his prize-winning photography series A Drain on Our Dignity at Wits Art Museum.

A freelance photojournalist and graduate of Garth Stead's Icon Images School of Photography, Feni documents the social issues in and around Cape Town, focusing on the lack of service delivery and the challenges faced by marginalised community. Feni lives in Cape Town's impoverished Cape Flats and his frustration with the ever-growing disparity between the privileged and the poor inspired him to begin this photography series. “I experience issues like poor sanitation, access to clean water and the flooding first-hand. Every day we read about people’s anger and frustration but we don’t get to see the other side”.

A Drain on Our Dignity follows two sanitation workers as they maintain and clean portable communal toilets, from the township to the waste depot, offering an intimate look at a routine city process and its human elements.
