Matthew Hindley's artworks introduce a middle ground between photography (the source material for many of his works is news photography), painting and drawing, featuring large-scale paintings that are produced using graphic mark-making techniques and layers of highly transparent Shminka oil paints.

Featuring works from his 2016 Ruin Lust and new paintings and process drawings, this latest exhibition Survey of Risk is a retrospective look at Hindley’s residency at the David Krut Gallery in Cape Town. Luminous and intense, Survey of Risk continues Hindley’s love affair with the destructive beauty of explosions, slowing the moment of explosion down to create abstracted suggestions of other images.
