As the days become longer and spring teases into the South African air, in Europe's Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway the dark winter months are looming on the horizon. The Nordic Film Festival celebrates Nordic Noir, exploring the off-beat humour and creativity born from enduring extreme weather conditions. Expect tongue-in-cheek humour, Nazi Zombies, world class horror and award-winning crime thrillers.<br /> <br /> <strong>Sat Sep 30 from 11:30</strong><br /> <strong><em>The Bridge</em> </strong><br /> A Danish and a Swedish inspector are forced to team up when a dead body is found on the bridge that links Denmark and Sweden. This screening shows the first five episodes with a 15 minute interval between each.<br /> <br /> <strong>Sat Sep 30 at 18:00 and Wed Oct 4 at 19:30<br /> <em>Dead Snow 1 and 2</em></strong><br /> A group of medical students embark on a ski vacation which takes a horrific turn when they are attacked by a gang of Nazi zombies. In <em>Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead</em> the battle to defeat the Nazi zombies continues with the help of a group of American zombie enthusiasts. Both <em>Dead Snow</em> films were written by award-winning Norwegian director, screenwriter and producer Tommy Wirkola, who also wrote the hit <em>Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters</em>.<br /> <br /> <strong>Sun Oct 1 at 17:00 and Tue Oct 3 at 19:30</strong><br /> <strong><em>Iron Sky</em></strong><br /> The Nazis set up a secret base on the dark side of the moon in 1945 where they hide out and plan to return to power in 2018.<br /> <br /> <strong>Sun Oct 1 at 19:00</strong><br /> <strong><em>Drifters </em></strong><br /> When street pusher Minna can't pay her rent she cheats a few young criminals on a drug deal and takes the money before heading out of town to join a group running an illegal squat. A captivating social political drama thriller about a woman at the bottom of society and her struggle for human dignity.<br /> <br /> <strong>Mon Oct 2 at 19:30</strong><br /> <em><strong>The Keeper of Lost Causes</strong></em><br /> A classic Nordic crime thriller. Police inspector Carl Mørck is put in charge of a department of cold cases, joined only by his assistant, Assad. They dig into a case about a disappeared woman.<br /> <br /> <strong>Thu Oct 5 at 19:30</strong><br /> <em><strong>Sami Blood </strong></em><br /> Elle Marja, 14, is a reindeer-breeding Sámi girl. Exposed to the racism of the 1930s and race biology examinations at her boarding school, she starts dreaming of another life. To achieve this other life, she has to become someone else and break all ties with her family and culture.<br /> <br /> Entrance to all films at the festival is free.
