Roaming Office – Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa

more than a year ago
When it comes to blending work and leisure, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa has taken the concept to a whole, new level. Nestled in residential Morningside, this unique hotel boasts a range of amenities that make it an ideal destination that combines a luxurious stay with top-notch facilities for business travellers and leisure seekers alike. We recently took our roaming office to Fairlawns (August 2023), a day where the Johannesburg In Your Pocket team works from a hotel workspace and we get the opportunity to connect with hospitality partners and explore hotel properties.

In the morning we were warmly welcomed by the friendly front-of-house staff and escorted to the private dining room, just off the high tea room, where we worked for the day. The hotel exudes an 'Alice in Wonderland' vibe, with its unique design elements including colourful printed wallpapers, fabrics and imaginative spaces. This creates an ambience we think stimulates creativity and encourages guests to explore their surroundings with a sense of wonder.

The Fairlawns experience

Fairlawns is not your average accommodation. With a total of 41 rooms, each designed with meticulous attention to detail, the hotel is a tapestry of elegance, a personalised haven for every guest. One of the standout features is that every bedroom is designed differently, creating a sense of novelty and uniqueness for every stay.

Great pride is taken in their ability to match guests with rooms that align with their interests and preferences. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a lover of fabrics, or simply seeking a room that resonates with your personality, the staff at Fairlawns is dedicated to ensuring your stay is not only comfortable but also tailored to your individual tastes.

An array of room options suit various preferences – among them we loved the idea of taking up the double-story, two-bedroom Presidential Suite, perfect for those looking for extra space and seeking opulence, or the private, stand-alone Villa Moji with two en-suite bedrooms and an extra-length swimming pool.

The history of the property is also integrated into the guest experience, with four of the 12 courtyard suites converted from stables when the property was a farm. You'll never know what waits for you behind the door; room four, for instance, features a cork wall and an African safari-inspired design.

The Grand Chateau, featuring 20 rooms and built in 2008, represents the most recent addition to Fairlawns' collection of accommodations. We were big fans of the Ardmore cushions and velvet couches in the lounge area of the chateau. This modern extension adds a contemporary touch to the hotel's overall aesthetic, providing guests with even more choices to tailor their stay to their preferences.

For those seeking a productive work environment, the hotel offers a well-equipped boardroom that caters to business meetings and events. Whether you're brainstorming new ideas or holding important discussions, this boardroom provides a professional setting to facilitate your objectives.

While Fairlawns caters to a range of visitors, it primarily serves as a haven for leisure travellers seeking relaxation and respite. However, the hotel does welcome business guests who are looking for a distinctive setting to blend their work commitments with some much-needed downtime.

Amenities

In addition to its stunning accommodations and immersive design, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa offers state-of-the-art facilities that cater to both relaxation and exercise. Stepping into the Balinese-inspired spa, guests are transported to a realm of tranquillity and rejuvenation. The treatment rooms provide a variety of services aimed at rejuvenating the body and mind, while the large gym ensures that fitness enthusiasts can stay on track even while travelling. For those who prefer to embrace the outdoors, the hotel's outdoor treatment rooms allow guests to experience spa treatments in a natural setting. This serene space offers a range of treatments that can help guests unwind after a day of work or exploration, there are whispers of expansions and changes to their spa so stay tuned for updates.

We headed to their restaurant Amuse-Bouche for lunch where we enjoyed a succulent beef fillet with tarragon glazed carrots, a wild mushroom mille-feuille, a generous portion of their shellfish pasta, a hearty plate of braised oxtail with herbed mashed potato, and risotto with flaked line-fish that definitely needs to be sold in stores nationwide.

The champagne bar off the indoor seating of the restaurant is where guests can enjoy a touch of luxury with a wide selection of sparkling wines and Champagnes. This is an excellent spot to unwind with colleagues or friends after a day of work or to celebrate a successful meeting.
