Roaming Office – Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City

07 Dec 2023
Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City is a four-star hotel in Waterfall, Midrand, that opened in March 2021. A sexy addition to the City Lodge Hotel Group, the Courtyard Hotel is a contemporary lifestyle oasis, offering plenty of good reasons to visit  –  including attentive and friendly staff, excellent service and great amenities. We recently took our roaming office to Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City (June 2023), a day in which the Johannesburg in Your Pocket team works from a hotel workspace and we get the opportunity to connect with hospitality partners and explore hotel properties. Here's what we found.

The welcome
We were welcomed by a bevy of attentive and friendly staff who led us to a co-working space near the lobby where we spent the day. The hotel had a warm, buzzy atmosphere which always bodes well. In the morning we were treated to a spread of savoury spinach tarts and quiche, sweet pastries and other baked goods in our workspace, with all-important coffee whenever we needed it. What a way to start the day!

The work space
The space where we worked can accommodate up to 10 people and is available for both corporates or guests looking for a productive work environment. The co-working space opens up into the lobby area with the added option of closing it off for more private work sessions. With a deli fridge stocked with drinks, snacks, and light food like wraps, sandwiches and a hydration station, you can conveniently refuel without leaving the premises. The co-working space is open from 05:00 –17:00.

Conferencing
When it comes to conferencing, the Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City offers three spacious rooms – the Skyrocket, Sugarbush and Mountain Rose conference rooms that each seat 32 people schoolroom-style or 40, cinema-style. Combined they can seat up to 120 people depending on the seating selection, so the hotel provides an ideal setting for productive meetings and events. The automated coffee machines ensure that attendees stay energised and focused throughout the day, as they can enjoy freshly brewed coffee at their convenience.

For those in need of a smaller, more intimate space, the hotel offers a small video conferencing room – the Pincushion boardroom – catering to the needs of professionals who require virtual meetings or interviews, ensuring that they have a quiet and efficient experience.

We headed to the Protea restaurant for lunch (have your phone ready to view the menu online). The à la carte restaurant includes a large mural created by artist Carl Maritz from Space Alchemy and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We enjoyed an amazing selection of meals including creamy prawn and parsley linguine pasta, a super stacked gourmet beef burger (if you hope to order this, our advice is to come hungry), and a seriously juicy beef fillet covered in a Madagascan pepper sauce with a kick. Unfortunately, we had no space for dessert but we'll be sure to visit again to sample their classic apple tarte tatin or baked chocolate cheesecake.

After lunch, we took a full tour of the hotel and the rest of the amenities Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City has to offer. As a proudly South African hotel with Art Deco inspirations, the hotel takes pride in its commitment to sustainability, ensuring a green and eco-friendly experience by providing biodegradable amenities, and avoiding the use of plastic. We viewed three types of rooms, all equipped with king-size beds, air conditioning, and sleek, matte black finishes, giving them a modern and stylish touch. The junior suite room stood out for us, featuring an enviable double shower we wish we could take home.

The Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City embodies a modern, Art Deco aesthetic with a commitment to eco-friendly services while not compromising on a truly luxurious yet affordable hotel experience. It's a win from us!
